Overnight ratings for Friday night’s New Year’s Day episode of SmackDown saw the show average 1.915 million viewers. It’s SmackDown’s lowest number since July 31, which was prior to the debut of the WWE ThunderDome.

The overnight number is down 42.6 percent from last week’s Christmas Day edition of SmackDown that benefited from a strong lead-in from NFL football.

SmackDown faced heavy competition in the form of the College Football Playoff semifinals on ESPN. Ratings for the playoff semifinals aren’t currently available due to airing on cable.

Most other network programming was in repeats, but Fox was still the only station below two million viewers.

In the 18-34 demo, SmackDown drew a 0.3 rating, down 53.8 percent from last week. SmackDown did beat everything else on the networks in that category.

In 18-49, SmackDown drew a 0.5 rating. That’s down 47.4 percent from last week but also topped all the networks in the demo.

Year-over-year, the episode was down 20.8 percent in overnight viewership. It was down 40 percent in 18-34 and 28.6 percent in 18-49.
