ROH has announced a new Women’s Championship tournament that will take place this summer.
During tonight’s 19th Anniversary event, Maria Kanellis-Benett came out and announced the tournament for this summer. The winner of the tournament will become the new Ring of Honor Women’s champion.
The segment was then interrupted by The Allure (Mandy Leon and Angelina Love). Love confronted Kanellis-Bennett, which led to Kanellis-Bennett announcing that Love will compete against Quinn McKay in a match where the winner will get a first-round bye. No specific date was given as to when the tournament will begin.
ROH has not had a women’s championship since Kelly Klein was the Women of Honor champion, defeating Angelina Love at Glory by Honor XVII on October 12, 2019. However, she was stripped of the championship after she did not renew her contract at the end of that year.
The Women of Honor title was then deactivated and a tournament was announced to crown the new ROH Women’s Champion. That was scheduled to take place last April, however ROH shut down for several months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and didn’t resume tapings until the fall.
