LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The College of New Jersey’s Alanna Namit and Christopher Newport University’s Rachael Payne captured this week’s Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III National Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Freshman right-hander Namit went 3-0 in three starts in the circle, striking out 23 and allowing just three hits overall in a pair of no-hitters, to earn her second weekly honor of the season. The Mountainside, N.J., native no-hit both Stockton and Kean to become the first freshman in NCAA Division III history to record four no-hitters.
Payne, meanwhile, was 15-for-20 (.750) with 12 runs scored, three doubles, a triple, seven RBI, three steals and two walks. The Brooke Point High graduate also recorded nine putouts and 11 assists over six contests — all wins for the Captains.
