Yes, the Wests have a fascination with birds and while we initially considered their passion a silly one, there’s actual weight behind their shared interest. In a new interview and photo shoot for CR Fashion Book, Kardashian dresses up like a “ghost from a simpler time” — one that happened to wear Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood gowns and also had a connection to photographer Jackie Nickerson.

The covered-up look shouldn’t come as a surprise, though. “What’s funny is that, though I obviously am very comfortable not being modest, my soul inside is kind of modest. My closest friends know that about me,” Kardashian said. “I’m not a diva who shows up on set and has all these demands of specific angles and glam and how I want to look. I like doing things that aren’t me or aren’t the way that people typically see me, and I love to see that version too.”
Look, the weird fashion shoot is just that (doesn’t Kim look like an extra on the set of The Sound of Music?), and it’s also odd that according to People, Kardashian called the shoot the “easiest” because she “didn’t have to suck it in.” But it happens to fall into the magazine’s 13th issue, and the publication used superstitions surrounding that number in reverse, creating a CrowdRise page to work with Unicef USA and raise money directed toward refugees in crisis.

What does this have to do with Kim? Well, the magazine got her to talk about superstitions, spirituality, and modesty, topics that bring us right to her and Kanye’s bird-watching habit. “I believe there are signs from the spirit world all around us. When my dad was sick with cancer, we were laying out by his pool and I said, ‘If you die, you have to come back in the form of a bird.’ We were driving on the freeway right before his funeral and this huge flock of birds flew over the 101. Everyone stopped because it was so crazy looking. I was like, ‘There you are,’” she said.
Kanye, whose mother died in 2007, has had a similar experience. “Kanye and I always reference birds. We seem to see a lot of black crows,” she said, according to People. While on set, she added, “Yesterday Kanye took a picture of the two black crows that are always at our house and always together. We always say that they are our parents hanging out together at our house.”

In addition, Kardashian also opened up about other habits pegged to her spiritual beliefs. “I can be superstitious at times. Like before going on an airplane. My family and I always step onto the plane with the right foot first,” she said. “Another superstition is that whenever we hear an ambulance, we always touch our hair. I also say a prayer that the person will be okay. I’m big on prayer and superstition together.”
