Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, has commented on the likelihood of a Happy Death Day 3 being released – and the odds aren’t great.

Reported by Bloody Disgusting, this news was revealed through a Q&A session on Twitter. Here, Blum responded to a fan asking how likely a third Happy Death Day movie would be. He plainly said that it’s “Not very [likely] but not impossible.”

Blumhouse not making a third Happy Death Day movie isn’t entirely surprising, considering Happy Death Day 2U underperformed in the box office compared to its predecessor. According to Box Office Mojo, Happy Death Day 2U has made nearly $75 million worldwide, and though that’s certainly not a bad figure considering its estimated $9 million budget, it pales in comparison to the first film’s $125 million gross worldwide.

While it appears a third film won’t be made, Christopher Landon, who directed both films and wrote the second, has shared his ideas for a potential trilogy. In an interview with EW, Landon said “I always imagined this as a trilogy, so I have the third movie, but it’s just a question of whether this one [Happy Death Day 2U] does well. I would love to make the third one. I think it’s a really bonkers, fun idea.”

When asked what that bonkers idea might be, he said “There’s a big clue already in [Happy Death Day 2U]. There’s an end credit sequence, so people who stick around, they’ll see that. But, beyond that, mum’s the word right now.”
