Fifty persons died in Kerala due to communicable diseases, a fortnight after heavy rains and flooding. While six are confirmed cases of leptospirosis, 34 are suspected leptospirosis deaths. Nine died of fever and one of dengue.

The number of confirmed leptospirosis cases has been increasing in the state with the figures now touching 159 since August 15. The confirmed dengue cases touched 104 and malaria 50, shows data with the Directorate of health services.
