Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on Nintendo Switch reveals a currently unannounced amiibo early in a tutorial pop-up.

Early in the game, a “Use Amiibo” prompt shows a picture of a Treasure Goblin amiibo, which has not yet been revealed by Blizzard or Nintendo.

The Treasure Goblin amiibo bears a striking resemblance to an already released Cute But Deadly figurine, so the asset in-game could potentially be placeholder. If the amiibo is legitimate, we’re unsure what rewards you’ll get for using it in the game for now.

On reddit, user JustMaku posted that Diablo III’s code includes references to a Demon amiibo in addition to the Treasure Goblin, as well as support for unnamed other amiibo, which could potentially include those from other series that were previously released.

As to when these new amiibo will be officially announced, there are two prime opportunities over the next couple of days. Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros.: Ultimate-focused Direct airs tomorrow at 7am PT/10am ET/2pm BST, followed by a Treehouse Live presentation with a portion of the stream dedicated to Diablo 3. If the amiibo isn’t announced then, BlizzCon 2018 kicks off a day later and runs through the weekend, which would be another potential window during the Opening Ceremony or “what’s next for Diablo” panel.

IGN has reached out to Blizzard about the Treasure Goblin amiibo and will update this story with any comment we receive.

If it is revealed at BlizzCon, the Treasure Goblin amiibo might be among the only Diablo news we receive, as Blizzard recently shutdown rumors of the long-awaited Diablo 4 making an appearance at this year’s show.

Diablo 3: Eternal Collection launches this Friday on Switch. We awarded the port a 9.0, calling it “a complete and polished Diablo package that you can play anywhere from Heaven to Hell and everywhere in-between.”
