Camp Fire, the fast-moving wildfire that has savagely destroyed the town of Paradise, has sent residents racing to escape for their lives. Roads quickly turned into tunnels of fire as thick smoke darkened the daytime sky, according to the Associated Press. The fire near the Northern California town of Paradise has grown to nearly 110 square miles (285 square kilometers).

Tens of thousands of people from the northern California town fled on foot as Camp Fire ravaged their homes and buildings all around. Another fire northwest of Los Angeles, name Hill Fire, has been swept southward toward the ocean by strong Santa Ana winds. Hill Fire has also been threatening hundreds of nearby structures as well.

The director of the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services says fires across California have forced 157,000 people from their homes, according to the Associate Press.
