BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Augustana wrestling team advanced two wrestlers to day two of the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on Friday night. Aero Amo and Michael Lowman each punched their tickets to the semifinals on Saturday and secured All-American status in the process.
Amo (184) and Lowman (285) become the first pair of Viking All-Americans since 2014-15 when Jayd Docken and TJ North earned that distinction. Amo and Lowman will wrestle in the semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. Amo will square off against Garrett Lineberger of Notre Dame College (Ohio) and Lowman will go up against Garrett Gray of Tiffin.
Augustana is currently in the top-10 in the team standings ranking ninth with 22.5 points after day one. Notre Dame College holds a commanding in the team scores with 56 points, which is 24.5 points more than the second-place team, McKendree with 31.5 points.
Session I
In the first session the Vikings with previous Nationals experience shined. Aero Amo at 184 pounds won by tech fall and Michael Lowman at 285 pounds won by a decision.
Amo defeated Levi Neibauer on a second period tech fall. Amo fell behind after the first period 2-1 before taking over the second period. Amo recorded four four-point nearfalls en route to a dominating first round victory.
Lowman came out victorious over Paul Head of Cal Baptist with an 8-2 decision. Lowman controlled the match from the start and cruised to a first round victory.

Brandon Carroll (125), Tyler Nation (157) and Ben Goodwin (197) each fell in the first round in their first career Nationals matches.
Session II
During the second half of the day, the Vikings secured two semifinalists in Aero Amo at 184 pounds and Michael Lowman at 285 pounds.
Amo defeated Nebraska-Kearney’s Zach Stodden with a 1-0 decision and Lowman got a third period pin of Andy Melton of Mercyhurst to advance. Lowman had fallen to Melton by major decision earlier this season at the Midwest Classic.
Tyler Nation (157) and Ben Goodwin (197) each earned victories in the first round of consolations but fell in the second round consolations concluding their Viking careers. Nation finished the season with a record of 21-12 and Goodwin ended the season with a 22-11 record and a regional title.
Brandon Carroll’s (125) season also came to an end and finished his freshman season with a record of 20-13. Carroll was the first true freshman to qualify for Nationals since 2003 for the Vikings.

Day Two
The Vikings return to action tomorrow for Session III and IV. Session III will begin at 10 a.m. and Session IV will have the finals matches beginning at 6 p.m.
