The St. Cloud State University wrestling team (1-0, 1-0 NSIC) enjoyed several standout performances during a day of competition on the mats at the UNI Open in Cedar Falls, Iowa on Saturday, Dec. 3. The tournament featured over 25 of the region’s top NCAA Division I, II and III programs, including many Big 10 and top Division I programs. The tournament was hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.

was led by Vince Dietz, who captured third place at 197-pounds. He scored a 3-1 record, which included an 8-0 major decision over Joe Teague of Iowa State in the bout for third place.

The Huskies also saw Gabe Fogarty gain a fifth place finish at 165-pounds and Clayton Jennissen, who placed fifth at 174-pounds. Fogarty was 5-2 in tournament action with four falls and a 5-2 record. In the bout for fifth place, Fogarty defeated Logan Ryan of Iowa by medical forfeit. Jennissen scored a fifth place finish for SCSU with a 4-2 record in action at 174-pounds.

As a team, SCSU ranked second in the field with a total of 12 pins on the day. The top team at the tournament for pins was the University of Missouri with 15 pins. Host Northern Iowa was third with 11 pins and the University of Illinois was fourth with seven pins.

No team scores were kept for the UNI Open.
