The Indian Army has opposed the request of a unilateral ceasefire in J&K by CM Mehbooba Mufti duringthe holy month of Ramzan till Amarnath Yatra. The CM had requested PM Modi to initiate a ceasefire taking the example of PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee who had opted for the ceasefire between December 2000 and 2001 May.

The army says that ceasefire could increase the number of militant-initiated strikes in the state as it happened when the truce was called last time by the first regime of NDA. CM Mufti had asked PM Modi to consider a ceasefire on May 9.
