A multi-step process will determine NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano’s challenger for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
WWE has announced that a 12-man battle royal will take place on next Wednesday’s episode of NXT. The final six wrestlers in the battle royal will advance to a Gauntlet Eliminator match that’s taking place at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one on Wednesday, April 7. The winner of the Gauntlet Eliminator match will then challenge for Gargano’s North American Championship at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on Thursday, April 8.
Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, Pete Dunne, Roderick Strong, Cameron Grimes, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Leon Ruff, Kushida, Austin Theory, LA Knight, Tyler Rust, and Jake Atlas are the 12 wrestlers who will be taking part in the battle royal. The order in which the final six wrestlers are eliminated from the battle royal will determine their entry order in the Gauntlet Eliminator match.
The Gauntlet Eliminator match will start with two wrestlers in the ring. Every three minutes, a new wrestler will be added. Eliminations can occur via pinfall or submission.
Gargano has been NXT North American Champion since December. He retained the title against Kushida at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month.
Lumis, who has been feuding with Gargano, defeated Gargano in a non-title match on NXT four weeks ago.
Strong and Grimes will be wrestling twice on NXT next Wednesday. Strong vs. Grimes in a singles match has also been announced for the show. On tonight’s NXT, there was a backstage segment where Strong punched Grimes. Grimes had approached Strong and wanted to buy Undisputed Era’s intellectual property.
