If you grew up in the Hulk Hogan era of professional wrestling or, like me, all you had in the 90s were old VHS tapes to study over and over again, the WWF Coliseum Home Video collection was your bread and butter in between major pay-per-view events. Ever since the launch of the WWE Network in 2014 old school fans have been clamoring for the classic footage to be uploaded.
Well guys, we’ve got some excellent news for you this evening…
Starting in 1985 the WWF began putting out VHS and Betamax tapes featuring never-before-seen interviews, matches and profiles of their various Superstars. Sometimes these tapes had themes like “Funniest Moments” or “Wrestling Tough Guys”. Other times they would package together major house shows like the 1991 Battle at the Albert Hall, which featured Ric Flair vs. Tito Santana, the Legion of Doom defending the WWF Tag Team Championships, and a special 20-man battle royal main event.
The Coliseum collection was widely popular and vitally important for the serious fan in the 80s and early 90s. Well before subscription networks and YouTube, the only way you would hear about a classic match happening across the country was in wrestling magazines and newsletters; even then you’d have to rely on the written word of others to paint you a picture. When the WWF started putting out tapes featuring some of these rare classics, as well as interviews and numerous other features, it was a real game-changer for the hardcore wrestling fan from that era.
Now for just $9.99 a month you can access a large portion of the Coliseum Home Video collection, which is currently being uploaded to the VAULT section of the WWE Network. What a wild world we live in today! Here’s the most recent lineup from 1986 to 1993:
