LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The College of San Mateo topped all schools with four selections to the 2015 NFCA CalJC All-American teams, the Association announced on Monday.

 

In the North Region, College of San Mateo led the way with its four inclusions to the prestigious listing. Pitcher Lauren Berriatua, infielder Melina Rodriguez, catcher Leilani Akai and utility player Harlee Donovan keyed the second-ranked and undefeated Bulldogs to a fourth consecutive Coast Conference-North title with a unblemished 37-0 record. Berriatua was a perfect 24-0 with a CCCAA leading 0.43 ERA and also struck out 155 with just 23 walks and one home run allowed in 130.2 innings of work. On top of that, she hit .552 with 46 RBI. Donovan provided the power for the Bulldogs with a CCCAA leading 18 home runs (tie) and 70 RBI, was second in runs scored (60) and also batted .543 with 10 doubles, a .609 OBP and a 1.095 slugging percentage. Her teammate, Akai, was not far behind her with 16 long balls and 62 RBI, a 527 batting average, .600 OBP and 1.129 slugging percentage. Rodriguez batted .581 with 45 runs scored and a .663 on base percentage.

Joining Rodriguez as infield selections were Butte College’s Kiley Mansfield, Diablo Valley College’s Ashley Allen and Ohlone College’s Haley Keahi. Mansfield paced the Golden Valley with a league-best .504 average to go along with 15 doubles, 41 RBI and 40 runs scored. Allen topped the Big 8 with a .470 average and 63 hits, while producing 12 doubles, three triples and nine homers. Keahi ranked second in the Coast-North with 56 hits, while batting .427 with 12 doubles, 37 RBI and 36 runs scored.

The trio of Haylee Moran-Rowen of San Joaquin Delta College, Alexis Wagoner of Sierra College and Andrinae White of Solano make up the NFCA All-American North Region outfield. Moran-Rowan crossed the dish 43 times, which was good for third in the Big 8 and also recorded the league’s third-most hits (60) and added nine doubles and a .507 on base percentage. League counterpart, Wagoner (.432), collected 57 hits, 13 doubles, 38 RBI and 37 runs, while White led the Bay Valley and was second in the CCCAA with a .563 batting average and 10 triples.

Turning attention to the South Region, Palomar College (Kali Pugh, Keilani “KK” Fronda) and Santa Ana College (Emily Whitecavage, Annie Dowling) each had two All-American representatives, while the Orange Empire Conference boasted four players, two from Santa Ana and one each from Cypress College and Saddleback College.

Repeat selections, Pugh and Fronda are first and third in the Pacific Coast’s batting average race. Pugh, an infielder, is third in the CCCAA with a .559 average and 71 hits and leads the league with 13 homers, 58 RBI, 59 runs scored, .606 OBP and 1.071 slugging percentage, the latter three ranking fourth, fifth and fourth in the CCCAA, respectively. Fronda, an outfielder, boasts a .470 average with 55 runs scored, 12 doubles and 35 RBI.

Whitecavage, a repeat All-American outfielder, is one of the two speeders representing the South as she is second in the CCCAA with 36 stolen bases. She also hits an Orange Empire second-best .458 and leads the league with 43 runs scored and a .583 OBP. Dowling is hitting .347 with six doubles, 22 RBI and 27 runs scored.

Allan Hancock’s Katie Chenault produced a monster season in the circle as she leads the CCCAA with 34 wins and 383 strikeouts (12.0 per game), while coming in with the second lowest ERA at 0.69.

El Camino College Infielder Tori Garcia has a CCCAA-best 40 thefts to her credit and also ranks second in the South Coast Conference in on base percentage (.533) and runs scored (50) helping her squad to a outright conference championship. Joining her on the infield are Citrus College’s Erinn Jaramillo and two-time honoree, Mt. San Antonio College’s Celina Felix. Jaramillo paced her squad with a .482 average, 16 doubles, 10 long balls, 42 RBI and 46 runs. Her doubles and average ranked third and fourth in the Western State – Blue Conference, respectively. Felix is tied for the CCCAA lead with 18 round trippers and owns the top slugging percentage at 1.261. She is the only player in the South Coast Conference above .500 with a CCCAA seventh-best .546 batting average and also has 19 doubles, tied for third in the CCCAA and 60 RBI.

Rounding out the squad is Saddleback College outfielder Jessica Angulo and Cypress College utility player Taylor Pierce. Angulo is the Orange Empires top hitter, boasting a .527 average with 79 hits, eigh doubles, 42 runs scored and a .545 on base percentage, while Pierce is hitting a smooth .392 with conference-best 12 long balls and a the second-most RBI, 46.
