LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Medway’s (Mass.) Catherine Higgins, Edinburgh’s (Ind.) Sidney Beier, Woodside’s (Newport News, Va.) Jackie Westfall, Kennett’s (Mo.) Hannah Criswell and Jurupa Hills’ (Fontana, Calif.) JaSha Roberts were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Player of the Week winners for their outstanding play during the week of April 10-16.

East Region
Higgins tossed two shutouts, including a no-hitter to help Medway pick up a pair of wins last week. In her first start of the week, Higgins twirled a no-hitter in a 1-0 victory over Ashland. The freshman hurler struck out 11 as she retired all 21 batters she faced. Two days later, she recorded a two-hit shutout with 11 more strikeouts as the Mustangs blanked Millis, 5-0. Additionally, she was 4-for-4 with a double and run scored in the latter contest. For the week, Higgins fanned 22

North Region
Over five games, Beier hit .875 (14-for-16) with three doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI and a 2.000 slugging percentage. She also scored six times and recorded a .895 on-base percentage. Homering in four of five games, Beier launched two as she went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored in an 8-0 triumph over Speedway. In her final game of the week, the sophomore registered three more hits with a pair of doubles, a long ball and five RBI as the Lancers trumped Heritage Christian. She also recorded a season-high four hits with a double and home run in game two against South Decatur.

South Region
In just two games, Westfall hit .909 (10-for-11) drove in 20 runs, while registering five doubles, two triple and two home runs for a 2.272 slugging percentage as Woodside scored 55 runs in two wins last week. She hit for the cycle against Denbigh, going a perfect 6-for-6 with two doubles, two triples, a long ball, 11 RBI and three runs scored. Westfall continued her hot bat against Bethel, knocking in nine more runs courtesy of three doubles and her second homer of the week.

South Central Region
Criswell hit .750 (9-for-12) with three doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI and nine runs scored, keying the Indians to a 4-1 week. She opened the week with a 4-for-4 outing in which the senior left the yard twice, doubled, scored three times and drove in three runs in a 10-8 win over Paragould. She doubled, homered and knocked in four runs in victories over Hayti and Naylor. Additionally, she drew five walks for a .789 on-base percentage and was perfect in the field, handling 30 chances without a miscue.

West Region
Roberts was a perfect 12-for-12 at the plate with three doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI as Jurupa Hills posted four wins last week. She slugged 2.250 and recorded three multiple-hit games. In game two’s 12-1 win over Arroyo Valley, Roberts crushed two home runs, doubled and drove in six. She added a 5-for-5 performance with a double, long ball and four RBI in game two versus Fontana. The junior captain was also flawless on defense in 22 chances.
