Speaking in a press conference, OGC Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère revealed that Iain Moody, who had taken charge of the club’s summer transfer window, isn’t in contention to become the new sporting director of the club.

Former Cardiff City and Crystal Palace man Moody arrived at the Riviera club after the sudden departure of sporting director Julien Fournier at the beginning of the summer transfer window. He presided over a window that included the arrivals of players such as Aaron Ramsey, Ross Barkley, Nicolas Pépé, Kasper Schmeichel and Sofiane Diop.

However, Rivère revealed that he would not become the club’s permanent sporting director, although they are hoping to integrate him into the club in another role. Asked about the focus on English and Premier League players during Nice’s transfer window, Rivère said, “This English overtone isn’t INEOS’ choice. Simply, we had Iain Moody, who came to help us and he had a contract until 2nd September, and he had a knowledge of the English market because he has worked in this market for years and years. As he’s worked in this market for so long, he has connections that made this English collaboration and that’s maybe where the connection comes from, but it’s just by chance.”

Asked about whether Moody could become the sporting director at the club, Rivère replied, “We have a list and we are going to try to find the person that suits us best in terms of where we want to go [as a club]. We will scour the market. When we find someone who suits us, we won’t rush ourselves, the sporting director will be named. It is a key post at a club and its one which we’ll try not to make another error.”

“We will choose a sporting director that won’t be Iain Moody. However, we are going to see if we can integrate him into our organisation because we have lots and lots of work. We have lots of structuring to do at the club in order to get where we want to be. I would be delighted if Iain could find a place with us.”
