In what was billed as his first independent match since signing with WWE back in 2011, Jon Moxley defeated Darby Allin at the Northeast Wrestling (NEW) “Brass City Brawl” event on Friday night in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Prior to the show on Friday evening, the former WWE Superstar known as Dean Ambrose spoke with TMZ Sports to promote the match.

“I feel like I’m 18 again,” Moxley told TMZ Sports before the match on Friday. “I’m just so excited, just chomping at the bit to get back in the ring!”

He added, “I’m so excited … I could wrestle ’til I’m 100 … stem cell research, you never know!”

Moxley pinned Allin after a 20-minute match that was all over the place. The finish came when Moxley hit his Dirty Deeds double-arm under-hook DDT finisher for the 1-2-3.

After the match, Moxley got on the microphone to cut a quick post-match promo. He thanked the fans and explained to them why being at an independent pro wrestling show is a special experience, and promised that Allin was going to be a big star in the near future.

“Independent wrestling is up-close-and-personal,” said Moxley in the ring after the match (see below). “This is the most passionate type of wrestlers you’ll find anywhere in the world right here.”

Moxley continued, claiming he wasn’t even aware of who Darby Allin was before Friday night, but that he knows who he is now and soon, everyone else will, too.

“I didn’t know who this guy was before this week,” Moxley said, referring to Allin, who was still slumped over in the corner of the ring. “But I’m going to tell you right now that you better be damn thankful that you got to be here live tonight to watch this live and in person.

“Darby Allin is going to be a big star, real soon,” he concluded, before going over to help Allin up and raise his hand to pose in front of the Waterbury fans to end the show.
