L’Équipe report tonight that Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced talks with Marco Verratti over a contract extension, with a deal potentially keeping the Italian midfielder at the club until 2026 possibly set to be finalised before domestic action resumes after the World Cup at the end of December.
The 30-year-old has been at the club for ten years and has won eight Ligue 1 titles in the process – more than any other player in French football history. His current contract is set to expire at the end of next season, and talks were reportedly already underway with the club’s previous upper management last year.
As well as the Euro 2021-winning midfielder, the league leaders have also initiated discussions with other players, namely Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe and captain Marquinhos – although it’s with the Italian that the discussions appear to be the most advanced. Verratti’s signature would be the first extension secured by new sporting advisor Luís Campos since he took office in the wake of Kylian Mbappé’s renewal at the end of last season.
