LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Oneida’s (N.Y.) Kyra Shlotzhauer, Superior’s (Wisc.) Mady Stariha, White House (Tenn.)-Heritage’s Alyssa Arden, Clyde’s (Texas) Peyton Lee and Tooele’s (Utah) Amber Lujan were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played the week of May 14-20.
East Region
Over three games, Shlotzhauer was 10-for-11 (.909) with two doubles, three triples, two home runs, 13 RBI and a 2.181 slugging percentage. Highlighting her week was a 5-for-5 outing against Central Valley Academy. She doubled, recorded three triples and drove in five runs. Schlotzhauer homered in her only two official at bats versus Vernon-Verona-Sherrill with five more RBI and three runs. The junior also was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI against Camden. Additionally, she tossed a pair of shutouts against Camden and Central Valley.
North Region
Stariha went 4-0 in the circle with four shutouts and 33 strikeouts. She scattered eight hits and walked just four over 25 innings. Stariha tossed a one-hit shutout with 10 punchouts and one walk in a 5-0 triumph over Denfeld. In a 1-0 victory against Blaine, she held the Bengals’ offense to three hits and struck out seven with zero walks, while knocking in the game’s only run. The junior hurler fanned nine and allowed three hits in her first start of the week against Eau Claire North. At the plate, Stariha recorded eight hits, including two triples and a home run, and nine RBI.
South Region
Arden was 3-0, did not allow a run, struck out 28 and tossed a no-hitter in three starts last week. She fanned eight and walked two as she no hit Greenbrier in a 5-0 victory. Arden struck out 12 and walked one in a three-hit shutout of Giles County. The senior hurler also struck out eight of nine batters faced and drove in five runs in a three-inning win against Hume-Fogg.
South Central Region
Lee hit .857 (6-for-7) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI, a 2.142 slugging percentage and five runs scored. Her performance came in a doubleheader sweep of River Road which clincded Clyde’s berth into the Class 3A region final. In game one, she was 4-for-5 with three doubles, a round tripper, four RBI and four runs. During the nightcap, Lee was 2-for-2 with another long ball and both RBI in a 2-0 victory.
West Region
Lujan hit .800 (8-for-10) with a double, three home runs, eight RBI and six runs scored, while slugging 1.8000 and leading Tooele to a 2-1 week. The junior outfielder went 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored against Logan. She followed that with a 3-for-4 outing against Desert Hills with her third homer of the day three RBI and three runs.
