RMC Sport carry quotes today from 35-year-old Brazilian central defender and PSG captain Thiago Silva’s entourage, indicating the veteran’s incomprehension over the decision made by the capital club not to offer him a contract extension.

His entourage indicated that Silva “is disappointed and saddened by the turn of events. He loves PSG, he loves Paris, he sees it as heartbreaking, this decision, for him and his family.”

“This season, he felt in top form before COVID. He was hungry and even at 35, felt very much in form and is struggling to understand this season.”

Silva is now a French naturalised citizen and his family felt incredibly good in Paris, having wanted to live in the French city even when his professional playing career comes to an end.

The next question is will the player agree to sign a 2-month extension with Les Parisiens until August so that he can complete the Champions’ League action.

A source inside the dressing room had the following to say on Silva’s current mentality:

“He feels helpless but not demotivated. Anger, but also the desire to win it (UCL).”

Silva has also spoken with Marquinhos and Neymar following PSG’s decision, having made his incomprehension and regret over the club’s choice known to his friends and colleagues.

One thing is clear – if Silva is to eventually agree to a 2-month extension, he won’t do the club any favours in his wage demands for it.

For the longer-term future, the Brazilian wants to remain in Europe, despite having a salary that is incredibly hefty, at €11m a year. At the moment, he does not have any concrete offers. Whilst some English clubs have enquired, they are put off by his salary demands.

Silva will have to accept a lower wage if he wants to continue at a European side with ambition next season.
