LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Colorado Mesa’s AnnMarie Torres and Concordia Irvine’s Callie Nunes were named 2019 Louisville/Slugger NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week honorees for games played Feb. 18-24.
Torres slugged her way to this week’s honor. In the Mavericks’ first two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games at Fort Lewis, Torres hit .750 (6-for-8) with two doubles, a homerun, 11 RBI, three runs scored and a 1.375 slugging percentage. The junior first baseman was 3-for-4 in both contests. In the opener, she doubled twice and drove in five runs. Torres’ hot bat continued into the nightcap when she blasted a grand slam and recorded a pair of RBI singles.
Nunes put forth a dominant week in the circle for the Eagles. The sophomore righty was 6-0 with a 0.30 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 30 innings of work. She tossed her second straight no-hitter when she shut down Adelphi with a season-high 12 punchouts. Nunes also fanned 12 at Azusa Pacific. The returning NFCA First-Team All-American twirled three shutouts on the week and held her opposition to a .109 batting average and surrendered just one earned run.
