Shorthanded Johnnies Fall at Eau Claire
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – A shorthanded Saint John’s wrestling team suffered a 45-3 dual loss at Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday, Feb. 1.
Junior Jerod Novak (Aitkin, Minn.) won the lone match for the Johnnies (1-5 dual record), who forfeited three weights, with an 8-1 win at 157 pounds. He is now 10-5 on the year.
UWEC (7-12 dual record) recorded three pins and two narrow decisions. Junior Anthony Hennen (Cologne, Minn./Norwood-Young America) lost a close 9-8 match at 141 pounds and freshman Jacob Scherber (Buffalo, Minn.) relinquished a takedown in the first overtime (sudden victory) for a 5-3 loss at 174.
The Johnnies compete at the Blugolds’ Don Parker Open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2.
