WWE has announced that Vince McMahon will moderate a face-to-face meeting between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan on the January 22 edition of SmackDown Live.
This meeting will be the final televised appearance for both men together on WWE programming until The Royal Rumble on January 27. Styles is challenging Bryan for the WWE Championship at that event in a feud that has grown more intense with each passing week.
The rivalry between the two began in November of 2018, when Bryan defeated Styles for the WWE Championship thanks to a low-blow. Daniel turned heel that night and became “The New Daniel Bryan.”
Since that time, Bryan has become something of an eco-heel. He consistently lectures the fans on their lack of environmental awareness, while touting his hatred for the fickleness of the WWE Universe. This new character may have taken a while to fully develop but it’s definitely transformed Daniel into a very dislikable Superstar.
McMahon questioned AJ’s heart back in December of 2018 on an episode of SmackDown Live. McMahon wanted to know who the “real” AJ Styles is and AJ answered that with a stiff right hand that sent Vince down to the floor. Now that he’s been announced as the man that will stand between Styles and Bryan on January 22, it’s clear that more chaos could erupt in this storyline.
