The news hit the world of professional wrestling (sports entertainment) this morning and spread like wildfire. WWE have created two new positions on the executive level for RAW and SmackDown Live. These positions are not “on camera” roles and will focus on “providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows”.
Paul Heyman is now the Executive Director of Monday Night Raw. The WWE boasted about his time as the genius behind ECW, and more recently behind the scenes helping WWE talent with their characters. Some of these vital interactions have been seen on WWE Network programs like 24 and 365.
Eric Bischoff returns to WWE as the Executive Director of SmackDown Live. This role seems to be a little more suited to Bischoff’s talents with major network executives. He’ll be working with FOX when SmackDown Live moves to Fox in October. The WWE is tasking the man who gave them their best competition in the late 1990s with steering their new flagship show into a new era.
Personally having Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff running RAW and SmackDown Live has me very excited. The geniuses behind one of the best eras of professional wrestling are now in charge.
Vince McMahon is still the boss, but he’s surrounding himself with the smartest people in order to make his company better. With HHH and Shawn Michaels overseeing NXT and 205 Live, the future seems bright for WWE.
