A group of 50 “yellow vests” cheered as a massive lorry swung round Gaillon roundabout, Normandy, and honked its horn in support.
Neither President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to scrap the green fuel tax that sparked three weeks of nationwide protests nor dire warnings of rioters marching on Paris to “smash and kill” have dulled their determination to continue manning their barricade.
“We’re ready to spend Christmas and New Year on this roundabout,” said Kevin Coget, 26, a “yellow vest” who has been “filtering” traffic every day since November 17 in one of thousands of such roadblocks around France. Seasonal decorations and the Santa Claus hats worn by several protesters proved his point.
